academics

By Paula Potter, Third Grade Teacher and Elementary Lead Teacher

Intermountain Christian School believes teaching is rooted in the understanding that all students are created in God’s image and are uniquely gifted. In my 25+ years of teaching at ICS I have seen instruction that is engaging and differentiated in a way that challenges and enables all students to succeed, no matter the age. Elementary classroom environments are structured so that all students discover and engage with truth in various academic disciplines, all through the lens of Scripture. ICS believes learning is not just academic and happens best when students engage in what they are learning, build on prior knowledge, and enjoy the learning process while in relationship with teachers and peers.

ICS meets, and often exceeds, the Utah Core Standards for academics by using:

  • Bible

  • Math

  • Science

  • Language Arts

  • Social Studies

At ICS we incorporate Throughlines or “Habits of Living” in every aspect of the school. Moreover, we desire our students to embody these Throughlines in their everyday lives.

Christ-centered Learning Environment

At ICS, our Christian worldview is evident in every aspect of our curriculum and extracurricular activities. In addition, through service projects and weekly chapel, students are spiritually supported and encouraged to be leaders in Christ, making a positive impact no matter their age or stage.

Chapel is also an integral part of campus life for each student at Intermountain Christian School. Chapel speakers are varied and topics covered are inspirational, challenging, and uplifting. Through chapel, small groups, class prayer, and more our students are inspired, mentored, and encouraged!

The Case Family

A few years ago we were attending an ICS graduation. We had known the graduate for many years and were so excited to celebrate such a momentous occasion. At the time, Washington State was the only place we called home.

This graduation ceremony convinced my husband and I that we needed to move to Utah and enroll our son at ICS just as soon as he was old enough. From this ceremony, one of the aspects we still talk about was the community of believers coming together to worship, pray and lift up the new graduates. Another unforgettable memory was seeing Bible verses proudly displayed as each student reflected on the verse that impacted them the most. This was such an incredible testimony to the efforts of parents raising their children up with unwavering faith, to the dedication of the ICS staff in assisting in this endeavor and to the parents’ hope of family life and school life mirroring each other and producing Spirit filled young men and women. Those graduates, many who came before and the countless who will come after, were definitely equipped to thrive in God’s world. They were and still are truly inspirational.

A few years later, we were crossing state lines in a moving truck and caravaning with our good friends to begin a new chapter in our lives in Utah.

The community of believers who choose ICS are strongly knit together by their faith in Christ. This is evident with chapel every Wednesday, the school’s Bible curriculum, praying within classrooms, the constant prayers offered up for each child by their dedicated, loving, and Spirit-filled teachers, and hearing the echo of worship songs throughout the halls and during the special holiday programs.

ICS is a Christ-centered learning community of which we are extremely blessed to be a part. We thank God every day for providing a place that our son can hear the name of Christ and receive an education that will allow him to follow his God-given path.
