Middle School
Middle school is a pivotal phase for your preteen. As a parent, you recognize the importance of the right environment during this season of transition. Where your child goes to school plays a huge role in their academic, social, emotional, and physical growth.
You want to offer them the best possible learning experience. Middle school isn’t just a bridge between elementary school and high school. At Intermountain Christian School, our middle school program is thoughtfully designed to equip and inspire your child with the foundational tools they need to thrive in high school and beyond.
Below, you’ll find a snapshot of a truly Christ-centered learning community.
Culture
A close-knit, connected community
Your child can navigate the middle school season of life and forge meaningful relationships within an inspiring, encouraging community.
Middle school students pledge to conduct themselves in a “manner worthy of the gospel of Christ,” modeled by Philippians 1:27.
Our school is committed to creating an environment where every person is recognized and treated as an image bearer of God.
We intentionally cultivate a safe learning environment for all students and seek to demonstrate patience and compassion around issues affecting the well-being of those in our community.
As we pursue the mission of equipping and inspiring students to thrive in God’s world, the goal is to see graduates who demonstrate Christlike character, exercise wisdom and discernment, and prove to be influencers in the world around them.
Distinctives
Your child will benefit from a middle school setting purposefully designed to support them during a key transition time between elementary and high school. Smaller class sizes allow for stronger connections as students work through traditional core courses and opportunities to explore electives.
As a parent, take comfort knowing we closely monitor academic progress, so students don’t fall through the cracks. Teachers are eager to offer extra help to students during community time and after school. Your teen will find social opportunities throughout the day and through extracurricular activities and events. We focus on spiritual development through chapel services and teacher-led small group gatherings.
Academic Benefits
We employ a variety of teaching techniques to allow students to learn in diverse ways, including hands-on practice, group discussion, presentations, and traditional pen-and-paper activities. Our students receive close guidance from teachers as they are challenged to solve problems academically and socially in preparation for high school and beyond.
Leadership Opportunities
Our students are provided with multiple opportunities to develop leadership skills that will pay dividends later on in life. Your child can participate on the Middle School Leadership Team, get involved in community service, and take part in peer tutoring.
Enriched Learning
Your child will enjoy a wealth of enrichment experiences where they can explore areas of interest. Popular electives include Broadcasting, Choir, Dance, Physical Education, Art, Theater, and Speech & Debate.
Competitive Athletics
Our athletics program exists to create opportunities for student-athletes to glorify God through competitive excellence. The Lions field middle school teams in baseball, basketball, cross-country, soccer, volleyball, and golf.
High School prep
Establishing a foundation for future success
Everything we do is designed to prepare our students to be confident, responsible individuals ready for high school.
Our middle school teachers intentionally build healthy relationships with each individual student, and partner with parents to provide the guidance necessary for preteens to truly be equipped in God’s world. Our teachers prioritize not only college readiness but real world readiness for our students.
Advisory Program
We help middle school students set short-term academic goals each week by tracking missing and upcoming assignments, and putting together a plan to help them complete them on time each Monday. Preteens have the chance to hear from a variety of guest speakers to learn more about possible career options.
Class Schedules
Middle schoolers are responsible for their academic achievement and behavior as they develop more independence. Students are provided time throughout the week to meet with teachers for additional support. Your teen can choose their own electives and level of coursework with guidance from teachers, counselors, and other key faculty.
Intentional Mentorship
An Intermountain Christian School education is about formation, not merely information. That is why we focus on the whole student and not just academics. Middle school students meet regularly in small groups with faculty advisors for valuable mentorship and discipleship.
Memorable Experiences
Students and leaders connect, grow, play, and moreover, are reminded of the beauty of God’s creation in Southern Utah and beyond. Before our middle schoolers transition to high school, teachers and leaders take the 8th graders on a highly-anticipated camping trip to Moab. Students receive the chance to explore the winding pathways of nearby slot canyons, hike along the majestic red rocks, raft the nearby rivers, camp among the towering rock formations, and more!
